Marriage
Holy Matrimony, or Marriage, is the sacrament in which two individuals are united in a lifelong covenant of love and mutual support. Through the Church’s blessing, the couple’s union is sanctified, reflecting the mystical relationship between Christ and His Church. The ceremony includes the exchange of vows, the crowning of the couple, the sharing of a common cup, and the procession around the altar. These rituals symbolize the couple’s commitment, the joy of their union, and their shared journey in faith. Marriage in the Orthodox Church emphasizes the sanctity of family life, the procreation and upbringing of children in faith, and the nurturing of love and spiritual growth within the home. This sacrament is available to all of God's beloved, celebrating the union of hearts and souls in the sight of God. Pre-marital counseling is often provided to help couples understand the spiritual significance of marriage and to prepare them for their lifelong commitment.
