Anointing of the Sick
Holy Unction, or the Anointing of the Sick, is a sacrament of healing for both physical and spiritual ailments.
Through the anointing with blessed oil and the prayers of the priest, the sick receive God’s grace for the restoration of health and strength. The sacrament includes readings from the Scriptures, prayers for healing, and the anointing of various parts of the body, asking for God’s mercy and the intercession of the saints. Holy Unction emphasizes the Church's mission of compassion, offering comfort, hope, and spiritual support in times of suffering. It serves as a reminder of God’s presence and love, providing solace and encouragement for the sick and their families. This sacrament is available to all of God's beloved, extending the Church’s healing grace to everyone in need. Holy Unction can be administered not only in times of serious illness but also for general spiritual and physical well-being, often during special services such as Holy Wednesday in Holy Week.
